Why do I do what I do? Why do I want to be a part of the one of the most stressful and crazy day in a couple’s life? Why is it important to me to capture that relaxed, natural smile on a person’s face even if it is just for a moment? All I can say is “that’s the way God wired me.” I started photographing my high school basketball team after my aunt gave me a very old camera and I was hooked. In college I took some art classes to learn what to actually do with a camera and later I got a job as a staff photographer for the University. I learned how to be a photojournalist by shooting sporting events, environmental portraits, special events, and graphic layouts. My art classes taught me the art of expressions, patience when working with a shot, and a love for art. My job taught me to be quick on feet, look for the best shot in a fast-pace moment, and how to take quality images.
I really didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I graduated from college with a degree in Writing with minors in French, and Art (just barely missing minors in History, Music, and Mathematics). I loved being in school meeting people from different backgrounds and interests but I had to graduate at some point – that’s what my boyfriend said; little did I know he was waiting for me to graduate so we could get married. After graduating and getting married I tried many different careers, working for other photography studios, marketing rep and an administrative assistant. Photography has always been my first love but I just didn’t think I could make a career of it. So what changed? A little girl born in the spring of 2003 helped me finally make up my mind. Once my daughter was born I didn’t want to go back to a job that couldn’t keep me busy and utilize my creativity. I wanted to be a stay-at-home Mom but I also wanted to have a career so I started my own business. My previous jobs gave me business experience and I don’t regret a single one.
